Vrnjačka Banja (Vrnjačka Spa)

Vrnjačka Banja is the biggest and the most popular spa in Serbia and traditionally is a very attractive touristic destination for relaxation and recreation. It is a mineral spa which has hot springs with a temperature that is same as the temperature of human body, 36.5˚ C (98F).

Vrnjačka Banja is located around 200 km south of Belgrade. It is very well connected with the other parts of Serbia by railways and motorways. With its local roads it is possible to get around and visit forests, mountains and UNESCO protected medieval buildings such as Žiča, Sopoćani and Studenica monasteries which are all located in the nearby Ibar river valley.

Vrnjačka Banja is surrounded by the complex of Kopaonik (2017m) and Goč (1216m) slopes and hills. The climate is continental. Surrounding mountains make microclimate of Vrnjačka Banja special. Summers are moderately hot with fresh mornings and evenings and winters are snowy but without harsh frosts. The average year temperature is 10.5˚C and average summer temperature is 20˚C.

Vrnjačka Banja has a very long tradition of health treatments which dates back to the Roman times. Vrnjačka Banja offers medical treatment for following health problems: diabetes; conditions after hepatitis; disease of gold bladder; disease of pancreas, stomach and duodenum ulcer; non-infectious disease of colon and small intestine; disease of digestive tract; conditions after removal of gold bladder; conditions after resection of the esophagus, stomach and intestines; chronic gynecological conditions and infertility; infection of the renal pelvis, bladder and urinary tract; stones in the urinary tract.

There are seven mineral springs in Vrnjačka Banja: Topla Voda (36.5˚C); Snežnik (17˚C); Slatina(24˚C); Jezero (27˚C); Beli Izvor; Borjak; Vrnjačko Vrelo. First four are used for medical treatment.

There are many hotels in Vrnjačka Banja and you will easily find private accommodation too. Treatment under the supervision of medical trained staff is possible in Special hospital for treatment and rehabilitation. They have 50 doctors and modern facilities for accommodation: “Merkur-novi”(B category), “Mirko Tomić”, “Merkur-stari”, “Romanija” and “Šumadija”.
